DESCRIPTION:Join us at our April meeting for an insightful and unique look into Ohio’s energy markets and regulatory environment. David and Katie are two of the top experts in their field in Ohio. If you ever wanted your Ohio energy markets questions answered by some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry\, this is your chance. \nSome topics that will be covered include: \n\nHow the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio determines utility rates in Ohio for electric and gas utility customers.\nHow Ohio House Bill 15 and Ohio Senate Bill 103 passed last year change utility rate cases.\nUpdate on the recently concluded FirstEnergy and AEP Ohio rate cases and a look ahead at the future.\nData center load growth in Ohio and PJM\, and generation capacity shortfalls in PJM.\n\n  \nDavid Proaño\, Partner\, BakerHostetler\, co-leads BakerHostetler’s national Energy Industry team\, representing clients across the nation in the utility and energy industries. David focuses his practice on utility matters\, rate-making\, regulatory compliance\, commission investigations\, retail and wholesale energy contracts\, behind-the-meter generation and commercial disputes and business issues in the utility and energy sectors.  David has over a dozen years of experience with multiple facets of the energy industry\, including advising energy-intensive commercial and industrial energy users and large data centers on establishing and expanding utility service. He routinely appears and practices before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) on utility\, rate-making\, regulatory and litigated matters\, including representing energy trade associations in rate-making matters\, natural gas companies in utility matters and serving as lead defense counsel in several major PUCO investigations of certified retail energy suppliers. \n  \nKatie Emling\, Energy Analyst\, Brakey Energy\, is responsible for reporting and communicating bill analyses and regulatory issues that affect the quality and cost of energy. She monitors activity at PJM Interconnection\, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio\, and the state legislature\, and then identifies issues that may impact clients’ energy costs. Katie also analyzes customers’ usage and billing data to ensure accuracy and identify savings opportunities. \nKatie joined Brakey Energy in January 2018. Prior to Brakey Energy\, Katie spent five years as an Energy Efficiency Engineer in Michigan for DNV GL and Consumers Energy. Her work included managing the Michigan utility’s New Construction Energy Efficiency Rebate Program for commercial and industrial customers and assisting in the launch and operation of the utility’s commercial and industrial demand response program. \nKatie has held Certified Energy Manager® credentials through the Association of Energy Engineers. She holds a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from John Carroll University. Outside of energy work\, Katie enjoys baking\, cooking\, spending time with her daughters\, and working on her family’s farm in LaGrange alongside her husband. \nLunch will be served at 11:30am with the presentation beginning at 12:00pm. \nRegistration deadline is Tuesday\, March 10 at 5:00PM EST.
